Our World Irish Aid Awards 2017

In the Senior room this month we have been extremely busy putting together our project for the Our World Irish Aid Awards.  The children spent a lot of time learning about developing countries, Global Goals and sustainable development.  We also learned about interdependence and biodiversity.  The children came up with lots of different ways to educate the school on how we can work together to achieve Global Goals and had fun teaching the other classes.  The children conducted interviews, wrote play scripts songs and raps.  We also hot seated Mrs Kelly on her trip to Malawi.

Let's Get Moving

Earlier this month we took part in the Operation Transformation 10 at Ten.  We decided to keep this up every Thursday in our classrooms using Go Noodle.

World Book Day 2017

On Thursday the 2nd of March we celebrated World Book Day in our school.  We all did something 'booky' in our classrooms.  In the Senior Room we enjoyed spending time reading with our book buddies from the junior classes. It was a great opportunity to discuss books  and  encourage reading in the younger classes.

In fifth and Sixth class we researched our favourite authors and completed the World Book Day top 5 lists on reading.  Sixth class also had the opportunity to write a story using Story craft a story writing tool on the web page www.worldbookday.com.  Story Craft gives great tips and advice from lots of different  authors. The children are encouraged to try Story Craft out at home and email any stories they complete to the school.

Our World Irish Aid Awards

In fifth and Sixth class we are learning  about  global goals. We have 17 global  goals some of them are no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well being, good education  and gender equality. In 2015  leaders of 193 countries including  Ireland  came together  at a big  meeting in the United States to look at the most serious problems.
They fight the most serious problems facing the world today. They spoke about what has been achieved by other countries working together since the year 2000 to fight poverty and hunger in other countries. Hunger is a big problem in countries all over the world.
We are putting projects  together to teach our school all about the developing world.
